Abstract
Report from the Frankfort American Statesman on the damage caused by the New Madrid earthquakes. Notes that at New Madrid the quakes were violent and at least 67 had been felt. The motion of the ground was at least 1 inches back and forth. Noted that the area south of Little Prairie had entirely been changed in appearance and that the St. Francis river was overflowed in places and elevated in others. Lakes had been converted into dry land and dry land into lakes. A retrograde motion of the river was noted at Little Prairie with eddies. Seven Indians were reported to have been swallowed.
