Abstract
Brief account that the old road to “the post of Arkansas” by the Spring river was destroyed by the New Madrid earthquakes. Also note s the creation of lakes and dry areas from the quake and some hills have disappeared.

We are informed from a respectable source that the old road to the post of Arkansas, by Spring river, is entirely destroyed by the violent shocks of earthquakes, chasms of great depth and considerable length across the country in various directions, some swamps have become dry, others deep lakes, in some places hills have disappeared.
