Abstract
Account from the Louisville Courier relating that an individuals who lived 18 miles above the mouth of the Ohio river and 25 miles from Cape Girardeau. Notes that the earth burst and discharged quicksand and water and 6 square miles of land had sunk and been flooded to a depth of 4 feet.

A gentleman on whom much reliance can be placed, that lives within 25 miles of Gerade[unreadable]u and 18 miles above the mouth of the Ohio river, arrived in town on Friday last, confirms the report that the earth burst open and discharged quick sand and water to a considerable height, about 18 or 20 miles above New Madrid, on the night of the 16th Dec. and that about 6 miles square sunk and water made in 4 feet deep. He apprehends some serious damage since his departure, which was on the 23d of Dec. last. Louisville Courier.
