Ornate Flared Rim Bowl

Description
A flared rim bowl with notched lip and notched, vertical appliqué strips. The two strap handles, which also have with a notched appliqué strip, connect the vessel’s neck and body. Body has additional vertical appliqué strips. This vessel would date from the late sixteenth to the early seventeenth century; similar vessels were manufactured at Mississippian town between Memphis and the Missouri bootheel. Such an ornate bowl would have crafted by a master potter of high social standing.
