Abstract

"Get Your Water While It's Raining" is the title of a collection of short fiction containing a story with the same name. The stories share a sense of adventure in dangerous and sometimes exotic settings. The places may be America, but the activities are frequently foreign to the reader. The people in the stories find themselves in situations that demand much of them physically, emotionally, and psychologically. The crew of a helicopter stalls out on top of a volcano. A young man becomes a lobsterman fisherman and discovers his mentors and peers are crooked. In another story a young woman works as a forensic anthropologist and catches an important case out in the desert when several bodies surface. The collection includes nine stories with an emphasis on contemporary literary realism.
