Abstract

This collection of poems explores and attempts to embody rural voices of the Southeast United States. Using disjunctive narrative styles and surreal imagery, it attempts to focus these various voices through the voice of the writer. Many of the poems turn objective images into verbs, verbs into the subjects of assertions, and employ surreal images to directly communicate the often surreal experiences of the rural South. The various voices here oftentimes relate, as well, the writer’s actual experience.
