Title

ANALYSIS OF A TWO-LINK FIXED-CONVEYOR SYSTEM WITH MULTIPLE POISSON INPUTS AND OUTPUTS.

Abstract

This paper investigates a two-channel fixed-conveyor system with homogeneous servers at the service channels. These servers are controlled by an optical scanner which interfaces with a mini-computer in order to control the dispersement of arrivals. Two types of arrivals are allowed - type I and II. Each is governed by a separate independent Poisson distribution. The service time needed for an arrival of type II is ″″ times that of an arrival of type I. The conveyor system under consideration is unloaded by two service channels without storage at either channel. The steady-state probabilities, for ″n″ items in the system, and other measures of effectiveness are derived. A simulation analysis was undertaken to analyze the conveyor system with homogeneous service rates. This simulation analysis was coded in G. P. S. S. (General Purpose Simulation System).
