Parametric optimization of a box-type solar cooker with an inbuilt paraboloid reflector using Cramer's rule

Abstract

An attempt was made to optimize the parameters that influence the performance of a box-type solar cooker with an inbuilt paraboloid reflector using Cramer's rule. Explicit expressions were derived for the temperature of the base of the cooking vessel, cooking fluid, stagnant air inside the box and lid of the cooking vessel. Simulation modelling of the cooker was proposed for the solutions of the energy balance equations based on the temperature components of the cooker. Experiments were carried out with the proposed cooker in summer and winter in SRKMV College Coimbatore-20 (11°N latitude and 77°E longitude), India. Numerical calculations were made for one of the typical days in summer and winter. © 2012 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
