“Straight Outta Nashville”: Allusions to Hip Hop in Contemporary Country Music
Abstract
In the past decade, it has become commonplace to hear songs on country radio with clear stylistic debts to hip hop. This article provides a brief history of this trend, as well as an analysis of the musical features and the socio-cultural implications of country music’s encounter with hip hop.
