"Coalition of trust" or "Trust Me, I know what's best": When Southern progressivism meets PAR-informed engaged scholarship

Abstract

This paper explores the challenges of conducting participatory action-oriented research in partnerships with faithbased community development organizations in the U. S. South. Through a case study that sought to make visible previously invisible "voices" in the redevelopment of a blighted African American neighborhood in Memphis, Tennessee, the authors critically reflect upon considerations for applying PAR and asset-based community development methods in the context of southern progressivism and faith-centered development. © 2010 The Institute, Inc.
