Abstract
Report of a major aftershock at Laguria on April 16, 1812 that leveled the remaining buildings.
Transcript
Ruin of Laguira consummated! From Laguira, we learn. that after the violent shocks of an earthquake on the 26th of March, which destroyed a great part of that town, &c. as mentioned in former papers, they had frequent small shocks till the 16th of April, when they experienced a very severe one which destroyed the few remaining buildings and several hundred persons. This shock was so severe that not a single house or building was left in the whole town. This shock is said to have done considerable damage at Caraccas and other parts of the country. The inhabitants of Laguira who are left alive, have, with the concurrence of government, fixed on a scite to build a new city a small distance to the southward of the old one
