Abstract
Report from the Nashville examiner for the January 23, 1812 earthquake. Time of the earthquake is “between 8 and 9” am (local time) Notes that is was nearly as strong as the December 16, 1811 earthquake, It also mentions that 2 miles away from town the ground opened and swallowed a cow.
Transcript
EARTHQUAKE.--The Nashville, (Ten.) Examiner, of the 24th ult. states, that another shock of an earthquake was felt on the 23d, between the hours of 8 & 9 in the morning, nearly as severe as the one on the 16th Dec. and within two miles of that place, the earth opened and engulphed a cow.-A report is in circulation that, the Indians had made an attack on the U. States' Saline, killed all the people and destroyed the works.
