Abstract
Felt report for the January 23, 1812 earthquake from Richmond, Virginia. Notes that the shock was severe. Time of the earthquake was 9:30 am (local time). The earthquake was felt better on Richmond and Shockoe hills than in the lower areas of the town. Effects noted were books being thrown from the shelves, and breakfast diners leaving their tables.
Transcript
Richmond, January 25. About half after 9 o'clock this morning, a severe shock of an Earthquake was felt in this city. Like the last, it was more sensibly felt on Shocks and Richmond hills than in the lower parts of the city. In some instances books were nearly thrown from the shelves---and numbers who were at breakfast at the time, precipitately left the tables.
