Transcript
Extract of a letter to the editor, dated Natchez, Aug. 11, 1812. "You no doubt before this reaches you, will have heard of the expedition now forming on the river Sabine, being a motley collection of individuals from the state of Louisiana, this territory and other parts of the United States; a people only for some desperate enterprise. Their number are said to exceed five hundred, and daily increasing; it is not yet ascertained what their views and intentions are-but it is supposed, as soon as they are concentrated, to possess themselves of the Spanish frontier town, which is held by the friends of Ferdinand; from thence to endeavor to form a junction with the Spanish revolutionary general, from whom it is said great advances are held out to those who will join his standard, should he be successful in establishing the independence of the part of the country."
