Abstract
Felt report from February 7, 1812 at Charleston, South Carolina “Another shock of an Earthquake was felt in this city, about three minutes before 4 o’clock this morning. This is supposed to have been more violent than any we have yet experienced. Its duration, accurately timed by the Captain of the City Guard, who was on duty at the time, was as he states, exactly two minutes. The vibratory motion caused most of the house bells to ring. The shock was preceded by a hollow rumbling noise, for about three hours, at intervals of three or four minutes.”
