Abstract
Comment on the John C. Edwards account that states that it might be an exaggeration. A individual had noted that the force of the earthquake was the same as felt at Milledgeville. December 16, 1811 earthquake
Transcript
An extraordinary account of the Earthquake of the 16th December last, as felt near the Warm Springs in Buncomb county, N. C. will be found in our preceding columns. Persons and cattle are stated to have been thrown down by the shock - rocks of prodigious size precipitated from the mountains, and flashes of fire seen to issue from fissures in this earth; with other circumstances not less remarkable. What degree of credit should be attached to the report; is not for us to determine; but we have conversed with a gentleman of this place, who was at that time in the neighborhood of Buncomb, and he believes the shock to have been not more violent there than here.
