NAVY OF THE UNITED STATES. The following is a brief and comprehensive sketch of the equipment and stations our small and gallant navy. It has been re-touched by a gentleman of the profession:-- On a cruise, last from N. Y. Tee Frigates, PRESIDENT, 44 guns, Commodore Rogers-THE UNITED STATES, 44, Commodore Decatur-THE CONGRESS, 36, Capt. Smith-The Ship of War Hornet, 16, Capt. Lawrence--Brig ARGUS, 16, Capt. Sinclair. This squadron is under command of Commodore Rogers-[N. B. The Commodore is Commander of a Squadron on a separate station.]-According to the last and most likely advices, this squadron had gone in pursuit of a rich Jamaica convoy of at least 100 merchantmen. New-York-Frigate Essex, 32 guns, Captain Porter. Bound to New-York from Washington-Frigate CONSTITUTION, 44 guns, Captain Hull; said to be at Annapolis, having nearly completed her Complement of Scaman. At Boston, or on her way to N.Y.-Frigate JOHN ADAMS, 32, Captain Ludlow. These 2 frigates are no doubt bound to New-York to concentrate with the squadron of Commodore Rogers. At Boston, arrived on the 18th of June from a cruise-Brig NAUTILUS, 12 guns, Captain Crane. Repairing at Boston-Frigate CHESAPEAKE, 44 guns, no commander yet appointed. Repairing at Washington-Frigates CONSTELLATION, 36 guns, Capt. Stewart-and ADAMS, 32. In service to the South, viz. at New-Orleans--Brigs SIREN, 16 guns, Capt. Bainbridge, VIPER, 12, Capt. Dexter; and Schooner ENTERPRIZE, 44, Captain Blakeley. The brig VIXEN, 14, Captain Gadsden, is stationed at Charleston, though is now off Amelia Island.. In France, or on her way to the U. S.-Ship of War WASP, 16 guns, Capt. Jones. The Brig ONEIDA, is in Lake Ontario, commanded by Lieutenant Woolsey, who has also 2 Gun-boats with him The Bombs Vengeance and Spitfire are condemned-Etna in New-Orleans with Commodore Shaw, and Vesuvius at New-York under Captain Chauncey. Of the Gun-Boats, about 56 are at New-York under command of Captain Chauncey-About 20 at New-Orleans under command of Captain Shaw-About the same number at Norfolk under command of Captain Evans-a nun-under the command of Captain Murray in Philadelphia-Some few at Newport, R. I. under Captain Perry-Some at Boston and Portland under the orders of Commodore Bainbridge-Some at Charleston under Captain Dent-and others at St. Mary's under the command of Commadore Campbell. There are some few at Wilmington, N. C. under the command of a Lieutenant-But the Gun boats are so frequently removed from their stations, and the numbers at these stations so frequently increased and diminished, that it is impossible to furnish an exact account of them. Congress has passed a law to build a new BOSTON, NEW-YORK and GENERAL GREENE, to replace frigates of the same name condemned as unworthy; and a new PHILADELPHIA, to replace the one burnt at Tripoli-Timbers are now collecting for this purpose at Washington, Philadelphia and Portsmouth, N. H. We cannot close this sketch without expressing our firm conviction, as well as that of the whole nation, that the gallant navy of the U. S. will wreath new laurels, during the war, around their Country's brow.--Eng.
