Transcript
EARTHQUAKE. A letter from Vienna; dated October 9, says-- "The shock of the earthquake on the 4th inst. was much more strong in Upper Syria and the neighbourhod of S. himberg than at Vienna. It caused much damage at Krugslach and particularly at Muzzuahieg, upon the grand road from Carinthia to Vienna. A great number of chimnies were damaged and others thrown down; the walls of the houses were much injured, and the church bells set ringing. The shock was not so great to the north of the defile of Simmering, whilst at Gutestein the greater part of the inhabitants, seized with terror fled into the country. There is reason for supposing that this earthquake has been felt throughout all Syria, Carinthia, & Hungary."
