Abstract
Brief account that two men from Tennessee refuted the John C. Edwards account. Both had traveled in the Buncombe area and noted no volcano.
Transcript
Two gentlemen, now in this city, who left Tennessee on the 4th instant, and travelled across the mountains, by Buncomb court-house, along French-Broad river, positively assert, that no volcano, as is related in the narrative of Mr. Edwards, had made its appearance in that quarter. Such a report prevailed; but it was generally discredited. No land had been [unreadable], nor had any damage been done by the supposed volcano. The above gentlemen live thirty-four miles from the warm springs, and twenty-nine miles from the Painted-Rock.
