Abstract
Report that notes that the December 16, 1811 earthquake that was felt on the Atlantic coast was also felt at St. Louis, but more severely. Notes split chimneys and houses there.
Transcript
The Earthquakes witnessed along the Atlantic on the morning of the 16th ult. were also felt at St. Louis, in Upper Louisiana, about quarter past 2. The shocks were repeated through that and the next day. The most violent were the first, and one which took place at 8 in the same morning. These phenomina remarkably coincide as to time with what happened on the sea board; but the violence of the western far exceeded the others. At St. Louis, chimnies were thrown down and stone houses split.
