Abstract
Brief article comparing comets and women
Transcript
COMETS and WOMEN. Comets doubtless answer some wise and good purpose in the Creation. So do Women. Comets are incomprehensible, beautiful and excentric. So do Women. Comets shine with peculiar splendor, but at night appear most brilliant. So do Women. Comets are enveloped with a lucid nebula, through which their forms are visible. So are those of Women through their light and elegant attire. Comets compound the most learned when they attempt to ascertain their nature. So do Women. Comets equally excite the admiration of the Philosopher, and simpleton. So do Women. Comets have an incomprehensible influence. So have Women. Comets are fiery. So are Women. The fires of the former, it is supposed, will one day destroy the world; but the fires of the latter have thus far given it life and motion, and made it a fit habitation for man. While therefore the former are gadding abroad through infinite space-let them go, and joy go with them; and let us in the mean time keep within our own sphere of action and jog through the world as well as we may with the letter. A SON OF ADAM.
