Abstract
Brief report that the December 16, 1811 earthquake was felt at Fort Stoddert, Alabama. Approximately 20 miles north of Mobile, Alabama. Notes that two shocks were felt there at the same time they were felt at Natchez. Notes that they were not felt at New Orleans due to the town “resting, as it were on the water,”
Transcript
A letter from Fort Soddert mentions, that on the morning of the 16th inst. two shocks of an earthquake had been felt.-This is precisely the time it was felt at Natchez. It is evident that our being an Island and resting as it were on the water, prevents us from feeling part of the shock.
