Transcript
Extract of another letter, dated Coro, April 20. [unreadable] Caracas, I cannot give you any further details respecting its ruins, as I have no time.--[unreadable] former accounts are confirmed, and the [unreadable] increases every day; for even as late as [unreadable] Sunday, the earthquakes continued; this has [unreadable] observed by the crew of a launch arrived from Cumana, which passed by Laguira [unreadable] Sunday; they were actually afraid the boat would be destroyed by the shock they felt on the water when they crossed the bay; They saw [unreadable]one house standing, the others had disappeared-they did not land, but passed within [unreadable] shot of the shore. The rebel expedition against Gunyana was completely routed also, on Holy Thursday, as [unreadable] by sea as by land. The Caracians had [unreadable] the river; they all perished; the details [unreadable] not yet arrived at Cumana when the launch [unreadable]. Felipe Ecteves and Bonilla were killed, [unreadable] losing their reputation and honor. We have not yet received the particulars of [unreadable] expedition. The truth is, that [unreadable] towns have acknowledged the Cortes, as far as Cutnana, and that the people are [unreadable] themselves in favor of the good cause. [unreadable] is a heap of ruins, according to a letter received last night from Don Manuel Canas. [unreadable] Martha experienced a shock but did not [unreadable] any injury. They were very much elated [unreadable] of the victory they had obtained over the rebels of Carthagena, who attacked them [unreadable] 1000 men; but they were all either killed [unreadable], together with six gun-boats. The troops from Porto Rico, are expected here [unreadable] week.
