Capt. Copeland, arrived here from Porto Rico, informs, that a few days previous to his sailing, accounts were received there via. St. Thomas, that a violent shock of an Earthquake had been felt on the Spanish Main; that part of Carracas had been sunk, and that 10,000 inhabitants & the principal part of the troops had perished-it was said to have happened on Good Friday; Capt. C. also mentions the arrival at St. John's of a Spanish packet from Cadiz, who reported that a Spanish squadron with 10,000 troops on board was about to sail from Cadiz destined for the Spanish Main. Several American vessels bound to the Spanish main have been sent into Porto Rico and condemned-all vessels bound to any of those ports in a state of Rebellion, being considered lawful prize.-There were five government brigs and several privateers out of St. John's (P. R.) cruising for Americans bound to those ports. Phil. pap.
