Description
These points date from the Late Archaic Period to the Early Woodland Period and are found in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana (where they seem to be especially associated with the Poverty Point culture). Pontchartrian points generally have straight stems, are thick in cross-section but narrow from edge-to-edge, and display a large range of sizes from small to long. The blade edges can be parallel or, more commonly, slightly convex, and have invariably been shaped by means of extensive pressure flaking to give the blades an almost serrated appearance in many cases.
