Description
This awl was made from a bobcat ulna. Awls are tools which are specifically intended to make clean holes in tough materials like leather or wood. The use of bone to make these tools, and in particular the use of a specific bone known as an ulna to make the awl, is also very common. The distal end of the bone fragment would be cut and/or ground to shape the working edge into the required form and hardness, leaving the proximal end as a hand-hold.
