Abstract
If Your Eye Causes You is a lyric essay (also known as a mosaic or hybrid essay) that explores sexuality, religion, family, and psychology through a series of prose poem fragments. The speaker blends psychological theory, theological speculation, humorous graphics, biological facts, and personal experience in order to open up a reflective space in which questions about the nature of love, the problem of evil, widespread cultural misogyny, and sexual repression are developed within a unique juxtaposition of diverse literary forms.
