Abstract
“Everything Looks Like Love: Stories” is a Master of Fine Arts thesis comprised of eleven short stories about women living in a neighborhood in suburban Maryland. These women struggle with social pressures, isolation, and disconnection from the people around them. Influenced by story collections by Alice Munro, Anthony Marra, Lorrie Moore, and Sherwood Anderson, each stand-alone story drops in on a woman and family within the development where they live. While the stories have varied situations—from sending Flower-Grams at a high school to organizing the last holiday for a dying grandmother—most deal with women trying to find meaningful connections within isolation.
