Bridging Language, Technology, and Inclusion: A New Era for LSP Pedagogy in Languages for Specific Purposes
Abstract
This chapter examines the redesign of a Spanish for Healthcare Interpreting course utilizing Open Educational Resources (OER) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to foster inclusion, equity, and digital fluency in Languages for Specific Purposes (LSP) pedagogy. Grounded in culturally responsive teaching and critical pedagogy, the chapter demonstrates how replacing costly textbooks with dynamic, bilingual OER materials, co- created with instructional designers and a bilingual theater group, enhances student engagement, well- being, and cultural competence. AI- based roleplays and translation tools foster personalized learning. Exercises include ethical considerations for perosnal bias and inclusion. The redesign promotes student agency, mental health, and access, offering a model for expanding LSP instruction to other professions and languages.
