Humanistic perspectives on sexuality

Abstract

Sexuality is a natural and personal part of life, yet it is also fraught with controversy about how, when, and with whom sexuality can be expressed. Further, if difficulties around sexuality occur, how one is to resolve these issues has changed somewhat dramatically over the past 60 years. This chapter reviews both traditional and more holistic humanistic approaches to sexuality and suggests a more systemic meaning-based approach to sexual problems. Attention is given to the sexual identity, including consideration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and other identities (LGBT+).
