Need relief
Abstract
The use of magnesium hydroxide as nonhazardous means of raising wastewater pH and minimizing hydrogen sulfide formation in collection systems is discussed. The magnesium hydroxide system includes a tank, mixer, pump, and controls. The chemical also requires less mass than caustic or lime to achieve the same degree of neutralization. The approximate dosage to control odors and corrosion in collection systems is 25 to 100 L per 100 m 3, which corresponds to 23 to 93 kg per 1000 m 3. It is also stated that compared to many other chemicals used to treat wastewater, magnesium hydroxide is safe for human health and environment.
