Current Status of Prescribing Pharmacists in Florida:Implications from the 1989 Florida Prescriber Pharmacists Practice Survey (FPPPS)
Abstract
Providers of primary health care services are seeking expansion of their post-World War I1 spheres of professional activities. For example, on 1 October 1986, the Florida State Board of Pharmacy extended prescribing authority to its pharmacists, effective May 1987. This study presents the findings from a survey of Florida pharmacists conducted in the spring of 1989. Both the current status of prescribing and motivations for choosing a, prescribing role are investigated. Perceptions of community needs, the pharmacist's inherent abilities, and attitudes about how prescribiig would dictate a change in pharmacy practice are all crucial factors in the pharmacist's decision. © 1993, Informa UK Ltd.
