Operational control of activated sludge treating phenolic wastewater

Abstract

Laboratory bench scale activated sludge units were operated at various mean cell residence time. Synthetic media with and without phenols were used as feed solutions. A modified kinetic equations were developed and used to determine the MLSS and oxygen demand at various phenol concentrations. Operational strategies to obtain the biological oxidation of phenols are discussed. © 1981 Science and Technology Letters.
