Knowledge in cross-cultural management in the era of globalization: Where do we go from here?

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to assess the significance and rigor of cross-cultural knowledge in the era of globalization. After reviewing the major paradigm developments since the 1960s, we propose a schematic framework for understanding behavior in and of organizations in dissimilar cultural contexts. A major thesis of this paper is that future researchers should be concerned with issues such as globalization, computer-mediated communication, and organizational and societal culture syndromes. In the final analysis, we present a socially contextualized model of cultural influences on behavior of individuals and groups in organizational contexts. Implications for theory and research are discussed.
