Anisotropic elastic properties of cancellous bone from a human edentulous mandible
Abstract
The material properties of cancellous bone in the human mandible were examined. Cancellous bone in the edentulous mandible was found to be approximately transversely isotropic, with the symmetry axis arranged along the infero-superior direction. A power-law provided a good fit between Young's and apparent density, with a coefficient in the power of about two for mesio-distal and bucco-lingual axes, and one (linear fit) for the infero-superior symmmetry axis.
