Large deformation compressive properties of the bovine proximal tibial physis
Abstract
The compressive properties of 29 samples of bone-growth plate cartilage-bone from a 12-18 month old bovine proximal tibial physis were determined. There was no evidence of damage to the growth plate at any of the strain levels. Each stress-deformation curve had unusual oscillations with a periodicity of 0.02 mm and amplitude of 0.1-0.4 MPa, which were duplicated at each subsequent strain level.
