Microstructural shear properties of bovine proximal tibial growth plate
Abstract
The shear behavior of the proximal tibial physis at the microstructural level is examined to measure the degree of heterogeneity in this mode of loading. It is shown that the shear behavior depends on anatomic location, the posterior region being stiffer and stronger than the anterior region and center regions. The mean growth plate thickness is 0.58 mm and the mean translation of ephysis relative to metaphysis at peak load is 0.66 mm.
