Surgical: Electrospun biocomposite material for vascular grafts
Abstract
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), USA offers a biocomposite material which has a potential as vascular grafts in patients undergoing coronary artery graft surgery. The material is a blend of polydioxanone (PDO) and elastin fibers. The new material could replace fluoropolymer polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) as a vascular graft. However it is cautioned that inert PTFE can lead to complications.
