Tensile properties of bovine proximal tibial growth plate cartilage
Abstract
Seventy-one microtensile samples of bone-cartilage-bone from the lateral, central and medial portions of the proximal tibial growth plate were tested to failure at three speeds. Tensile strength, toe modulus, tangent modulus, and strain energy density varied by both location and strain rate, being stronger and stiffer on the lateral side and at higher strain rates. No differences could be detected in the ultimate strains by either region or strain rate.
