Tracing the history of selective ion sensors
Abstract
The discovery that synthetic membranes can be tailored to choose and transport ions with a selected charge sign or a particular charge has led to exciting opportunities for theory and experiments. Richard Buck from the University of North Carolina and Ernö Lindner of the University of Memphis present their view of how membrane-separated cell research developed into ion-selective electrodes.
