A computational model for solidifying flows
Abstract
A new single field model for computational simulation of the casting process, 60m empty mold to solidified part, is presented. Model fidelity is demonstrated by comparison of computational predictions to analytical solutions for two test cases. The model is then used to study the casting of an aluminum part in an iron mold of simple geometry. The computational results of this study are presented as sequences of figures containing isotherm contours, velocity vectors, and the solidification Front.
