An assessment of the wind-energy utilization potential in tennessee, USA

Abstract

For five locations in Tennessee (Chattanooga, Knoxville, Memphis, Nashville, and the Tri-Cities conurbation of Bristol, Johnson City, and Kingsport), estimates have been obtained of available wind-power density, energy output from a specified wind-driven electricity-generating system, and unit cost of the electricity produced by this system. The best results are obtained for Memphis. Notwithstanding this observation, it is shown that the use of wind energy for electricity generation is not an economically-viable option at any of the locations considered. © 1991.
