FRACTURE TOUGHNESS OF SOME TIMBERS.
Abstract
The principles of linear elastic fracture mechanics are reviewed with reference to their applicability to heterogeneous anisotropic materials. The plane strain fracture toughness values of three timbers are obtained using single edge-notched specimens and three-point bending. The results given for Zimbabwe pine, mukwa and eucalyptus grandis.
