Magnetically actuated propellant orientation (MAPO) experiment: Pre flight flow field predictions
Abstract
Development of a new computational tool for the study of magnetically actuated propellant orientation is presented. A review of previous research on the magnetically induced flow of nonconducting fluids is followed with the presentation of a mathematical model for such flows and its implementation in a computational model. Fidelity of the computational model is demonstrated by comparison to a variety of configurations for which steady-state analytic solutions can be obtained. The new tool is then used to predict flow patterns for an upcoming flight experiment designed to study magnetically actuated propellant orientation.
