Observation of oxygen-induced radicals in gamma-irradiated e-PE core and surface
Abstract
In summary, this study finds that the concentration of OIR in e-PE is less than that in the conventional UHMWPE, and that it is much less in the core than in the surface. The use of high concentration of T also allowed this study to reveal that the vitamin E radical in e-PE is more stable in the core than near the surface. Absence of oxidation index (FTIR) further suggests that the OI and OIR in e-PE may not correlate.
