Jacob Guth in montrose: A town band in Central Pennsylvania, 1888-1897
Abstract
In late March or early April 1889 Jacob Guth, a traveling cornetist, music teacher, and band director around northeastern and central Pennsylvania, arrived in the small town of Montrose to work with its newly formed town band. He stayed until August, teaching the players their instruments, directing the band, and playing the cornet himself, and then he moved on to the next town and the next band.
