Abstract
The relationship between myth and identity is explored through three short stories in which the characters' beliefs about society and self are challenged by a natural disaster. The first is about a woman struggling with her recent fall into poverty; the second is about a girl who struggles with her identity after her father kills her entire family save for herself; and the third is about an orphan boy who is kidnapped and sold to a religious institution for sacrifice. Each story examines how identities supported by myth are damaged by the disproving of these myths.
