Columbian Mutual Tower, Memphis, 1924

View looking north on Main Street, Memphis, Tennessee, of the Columbian Mutual Tower under construction on February 1, 1924. Court Square is to the right. The 22-story building was being built for Lloyd Binford's Columbia Mutual Insurance Company and construction began the previous year. One of the first steel frame buildings in Memphis, it was also the tallest in West Tennessee. The copy photograph notes the date on the image and the name "Keeley Bros Cont". Keeley Brothers Construction Company of St. Louis received the contract for general masonry, foundations, fireproofing, terra cotta, carpentry, glazing and finishing. The Virginia Bridge and Iron Company of Roanoke, Virginia, was responsible for the steel frame fabrication and erection. The building was later renamed the Lincoln American Tower.
