An advertising card produced by Potter College in Bowling Green, Kentucky, from circa 1893. Augusta Malone attended the college. Pleasant J. Potter College was established in 1889 and educated both local girls and boarders in its large classroom and dormitory building until 1909. In that year, financial difficulties and President Benjamin F. Cabell's failing health forced him to close Potter College. In May 1909, Henry Hardin Cherry, president of the Western Kentucky State Normal School (now Western Kentucky University), which occupied premises located farther down the hill on College Street, negotiated the purchase of Potter College’s land and buildings together with some 160 surrounding acres.
