Transcript
Extract of a letter from Kingston (Ja.) dated, November 11th, 1812. "It is with extreme horror that I have to inform you of a dreadful Earthquake here, about 9 or 10 minutes before 6 o'clock this morning. The bowels of the earth were disturbed, and the motion was much more perceptible than the late Earthquake at Carraccas, but did not continue so long a time. It only lasted about 40 seconds. The damage done in this town is very great, as almost every house is injured; and all the New Barracks and the inside walls of the Kingston church are destroyed. Several lives were lost.
